Complete Blogging ? Blog Archive ? Recreation programs act as ...

From tiny tumblers and dancers to water aerobics and the
afterschool ski program, the West Yellowstone Parks and Recreation
department wants to help you and your kids stay you active this
winter.

We have lots of programs going, all of the activities are open
and everyone is welcome. So far we have had a really nice turnout
for everything, recreation coordinator Brandy Holland said.

After school skiing at the Rendezvous Ski Trails has been a huge
success, thanks in part to Freeheel amp; Wheel.

We do skiing every Thursday at 4 pm, and have had 40 to 50
kids each week. Freeheel amp; Wheel has been super supportive, and
its been a lot of fun, Holland said.

The gymnastics program taught by Kati Holtzman has been a
popular activity with younger kids and is divided into two age
groups.

The focus of the Tiny Tumblers class is to encourage children
from ages one to four to explore body movement and socialize in a
group setting.

For kids five years and older, the focus of the class shifts to
include the fundamentals of gymnastics. These include body
movements for balance, rotations, springs and landings.

I dont know much about gymnastics, so thank goodness Kati
(Holtzman) stepped up to the plate. I have dropped in a couple of
times and she is doing a great job, Holland said.

Holtzman, who teaches yoga in West Yellowstone, has a background
in gymnastics and responded to Hollands ad for an instructor.

Brandy knew about my history with gymnastics, and she was
having trouble finding a teacher, so I felt it was my obligation,
since I have children, to help provide positive things for kids in
West (Yellowstone) to do, Holtzman said.

She is excited by the opportunity to get kids out of the
house.

I want to help them move around and learn something positive,
especially in a world where a lot of kids spend too much time with
television and video games. So far its been great and I am very
excited by the support from the moms in the community, she
said.

If you like the idea of your kids getting their bodies in
motion, but the gymnastics class doesnt appeal to them, you might
want to consider one of Madeline Cutiettas dance classes.

Madeline is a great teacher and I know the kids are having a
lot of fun with her, Holland said.

The classes arent limited to children though.

Cutietta offers instruction for dancers as young as
three-years-old all the way up to an adult jazz class for folks age
18 and above.

If dancing is something you only do at weddings, there is still
a chance to get moving this winter by taking part in water
aerobics.

Held five days a week at the Holiday Inn swimming pool, the
program offers a way to prevent the winter pounds from getting you
down.

All recreation center activities are open and participation is
on a drop-in basis.

For the activity schedule and more information about any of
these programs contact Brandy Holland at (406) 640-1676 or visit
the town offices.
